2023 AT Thru-hike

We plan to start a thru-hike in the Appalachian trail starting March 14, 2023. A thru hike of the Appalachian trail (A.T.) consist of a hike of the Appalachian Mountain range from Springer Mountain Georgia to Mount Katahdin Maine, or the reverse. The trail is 2,198 miles long and it takes the typical thru-hiker approximately 5 to 7 months to hike the entire (A.T.) To keep us motivated, we plan to hike for three different charities that mean a lot to us.

Tom's Charity -Concerns of Police Survivors. (C.O.P.S.)
Tom has served 31 years in law enforcement and this charity is very important to him.  Each year, between 140 and 160 officers die in the line of duty and their families are left to cope.  C.O.P.S. provides resources to help them rebuild their shattered lives. Today, C.O.P.S. membership is over 65,000 survivors.  Survivors include spouses, children, parents, siblings, of officers who have died in the line of duty. Tom understands the hardship that the day-to-day law enforcement career places on the family member but cannot imagine what the loved ones that are left behind have to ordeal with after a losing their loved one in the line of duty.

Stella's Charity-Pawsitism
Stella is a 5-year-old Boston Terrier that will be thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail starting March 2023 with her human family. She would like to raise money for a wonderful charity called Pawsitism.
Pawsitism Inc. is a new nonprofit in the Sheboygan Wisconsin that is training Autism Assistance Service Dogs for children with autism.  They are able to do this by partnering with the client’s family to train, educate, and fundraise money to help provide a dog to help with their child needs.  Each family is asked to fundraise money to put back into the program before receiving their service dog and the rest of the money comes from our generous donors.
Pawsitism Inc. works with Golden Retrievers, Goldendoodles and now Bernedoodles. Volunteer Puppy Raisers raise our puppies up to 18 months to provide basic obedience training, socialization and care.
The benefits of an Autism Assistance Service Dog are proving to be truly remarkable. They assist people on the autism spectrum with completing daily tasks, preventing someone to wander, acting as a calming presence during overwhelming situations, and companionship.

Cheri's Charity-Mental Health America
Mental health is very important to me. I chose this fundraiser because it helps to address mental health in the early stages. Mental Health America (MHA) is the nation’s leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of those living with mental illness and promoting the overall mental health of all. Much of MHA’s work is guided by its Before Stage 4 (B4Stage4) philosophy – that mental health conditions should be treated long before they reach the most critical points in the disease process.
